With the amazing weather we’ve been having recently, it would be a shame not to take advantage of it.
The Great Sugarloaf stands at slightly above 500m tall, in the northeast section of Wicklow mountains. Given it’s distance to Dublin’s centre – about an hour away – it is a popular walker’s destination.

It is relatively isolated from other hills, with conical shape and steep slopes towards the end. However, it has a well-worn out path which might not require a full hiking set up.
The walk from the car park to the summit of Great Sugarloaf is approximately 3.5 km long and takes on average 1-1.5 hours, which makes it ideal for amateurs and unfit people such as myself. Past the flat parts, the final ascend takes up climbing up some rocks, however people with kids and dogs were walking this trail, so it’s definitely achievable.

The view from the top is stunning and on a clear day, you can see as far as the Poolbeg towers, and even Howth.
