I think it’s pretty clean by now that I am on a Lisa Jewell fan train – and it’s still going strong.
Its latest stop is a novel concerning a missing child case. Ellie was 15 at the time of her disappearance. Now, ten years later, her mother Laurel still holds on to a sliver of hope that one day she’ll find her daughter. In the meantime, life moves on, and so does Laurel, as she meets handsome and charismatic Floyd, who’s 9 year old daughter Poppy looks remarkably similar to Ellie.
As their relationship develops, unanswered questions start to surface and Laurel finds herself thinking that maybe there’s more to Ellie’s disappearance than originally thought, something much close to home.
While I’m addicted to Lisa Jewell’s writing style and intriguing storylines, this one just didn’t click with me.
In comparison to other books, this novel was too easy to figure out. This in turn meant to dragged for me, it took far too long to get to the climax I knew was happening. I had a hard time connecting with the characters also, they weren’t build up effectively, and frankly, some of them just weren’t believable enough to relate to.
So I’m leaving this one behind now, but the train is gonna keep going and so, onto the next station!
